Gwinnett, GA: Despite an early scoring rush, the Road Warriors could not stop the Gwinnett Gladiators in the second and third periods and fell by a score of 6-4 on Saturday night.
The Road Warriors began the game with three goals in the first 2:35. Andrew Rowe, Andrew Yogan and Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored to give the Road Warriors a 3-0 lead. Matt Bruneteau assisted on Vallerand's goal for his first professional point. Sean Berkstresser also assisted on Vallerand's goal to move his point streak to four games. Just a minute later, Maxime Legault deflected a slap shot to put Gwinnett on the board. The forward's 13th of the year moved the game to a 3-1 score that stood through the remainder of the first period.
Jonathan Narbonne brought the Gladiators deficit to one goal with a tally four minutes into the second period. The defenseman fired a slap shot past Jeff Malcolm for his second goal of the year. The Gladiators tied the game at three on a goal from Mike Merrifield with three minutes remaining in the frame. Merrifield scored his 15th of the year by beating Malcolm between the pads.
The Gladiators scored three more goals in the first ten minutes of the third period to grab a 6-3 lead. Merrifield kick-started the scoring just 1:58 into the third period with his second of the night. Dirk Southern and Legault also scored for Gwinnett. Vallerand brought the deficit to two goals with his second goal and third point of the night on the man advantage. The scoring ended with that goal and the Gladiators closed out the game with a 6-4 win. Malcolm made 27 saves in the loss.
