THIRSTY THURSDAY / HALFWAY TO HALLOWEEN NIGHT
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Riding a four-game winning streak, the Cyclones will look to complete a tremendous Southern road trip tonight as they battle the Florida Everblades for the second consecutive night. Last night's 5-2 win marked the 20th time this season that the Clones have reached the five-goal plateau.
SCOUTING THE EVERBLADES: The loss for Greg Poss' club last night dropped them below the cut line in the Eastern Conference standings. After a Fort Wayne victory on Friday, the Everblades now sit two points back of the eighth and final playoff spot. Despite being held pointless last night, Brandon MacLean leads Florida on offense, notching 54 points (19g, 35a) in 54 games this season. Mathieu Roy scored late in the game to improve his team-second best goal numbers to 23. Overall, the 'Blades captain has 47 tallies (23g, 24a) in 46 contests. Rookie Alex Iles suffered his first loss as a pro last night, making 14 saves to run his record to 1-1 with a 4.44 goals-against average. Former Toledo Walleye backstop Mac Carruth has gone 1-4 since shifting down south and owns a 9-19-0 record with a 3.45 GAA.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING: MARCH 28, 2014: Barry Almeida's empty netter in the final minutes capped off his second straight two-goal game and helped seal a 5-2 victory for the Cyclones over the Everblades in front of 4,948 at Germain Arena. Dan Eves posted his sixth multi-point game of the season as well while Rob Madore made 25 saves to earn the win in net.
Speed Kills: Fleet-of-foot Josh Birkholz has caught fire over the last few weeks. He has notched points in five of his last seven games, including a trio of multi-point contests. The Florida Panthers draft pick has set career-bests in every offensive category and owns 27 points on the season.
Lucky Sevens: The Cyclones continue to lead the ECHL on offense and are closing in on another club record. They have posted seven goals or more in five games this season. The record-setting 2007-08 squad accomplished this feat nine times.
Century Club: Cyclones forward Barry Almeida reached a personal milestone this past weekend. On Saturday, he played in his 100th game as a professional. With Cincinnati this year, the former Boston College star has 14 goals and 10 assists in 39 games.
