Wranglers Can't Climb out of Early Hole, Fall to Aces 5-1
March 29, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers couldn't climb out of an early hole on Friday night, as the Alaska Aces jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead and held on to win, 5-1. The two teams will face off twice more before the weekend comes to a close, with games scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 29 and Sunday, Mar. 30. Saturday's game features the final free post-game concert of the season, with Todd Snider taking the on-ice stage immediately after the final horn.
Alaska's Peter Sivak got the scoring started 7:22 into the opening frame, assisted by Nick Mazzolini (42) and Brandan Connolly (27). The goal would start a run of four straight scores for the Aces, with Turner Elson (3), Jordan Morrisson (25) and Connolly (21) all finding the back of the net before the first period came to a close, giving Alaska a 4-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.
Early in the second, Wranglers' forward Shawn Skelly would cut the lead down to 4-1 with his 10th goal of the year, extending his current point streak to three games (3g, 1a). Assists on the score, which came 3:54 into the period, went to Matt Tassone (21) and Charlie Cook (18). Zach McKelvie (2) would answer back for the Aces, making it a 5-1 game with just 5:30 to go in the frame, assisted by Morrison (26), his third point of the night, and Brett Findlay (29), his second.
With neither team breaking through in the third period, the 5-1 score would hold, giving Vegas their first loss in their last three games.

The Wranglers and Aces will meet again tomorrow night, Saturday Mar. 29 for game two of their three-game weekend set. The game will feature the fourth and final of the 2013-14 post-game concert series with Todd Snider taking the stage immediately after the game. The two will wrap up the series on Sunday, Mar. 30, followed by the final free post-game skate of the 2013-14 season.
