Grizzlies Power Past Miners at Home

SAUGET, IL - Six different players drove in two runs or more and the Gateway Grizzlies cruised to a 13-5 win over the Southern Illinois Miners Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark. The Grizzlies homered four times, tying a season-high.

Jett Hart, Derek Jennings, Joe Agreste, Case Rigby and Johnny Aldaz all had two RBI, while Charlie Lisk led the way with three.

Gateway (32-46) jumped on Southern Illinois (49-29) early and often. After singles by Jennings and Agreste, Lisk started the Gateway scoring with a three-run homer in the first inning.

Matt Fields clubbed a solo homer to right field to get the Miners on the board in the second inning.

Gateway broke the game wide open with four runs in the second and two in the third inning. Jennings drove in two with a double in the second and Agreste slammed his tenth homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the second.

Aldaz made it 9-1 Gateway with a two-run homer in the third inning. The homer was the second of the season for Aldaz.

Hart recorded his first home run of the season. Hart's blast was a two-run shot in the fifth inning.

Rigby capped off the Grizzlies scoring in the eighth inning with a two-run double.

Brad Stone (1-7) picked up his first win for Gateway in his 11th start of the season. Stone surrendered only three runs on seven hits in six innings. The right-hander from St. Louis struck out three batters.

The Grizzlies resume their three-game series with the Southern Illinois Miners on Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark. Rookie left-hander Andres Caceres Jr. (2-2) gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
