With the 2011 Frontier League season winding down and just eighteen games remaining, the River City Rascals have a six game lead over second place Southern Illinois in the West Division. With a six-game homestand on tap starting today versus the Normal Cornbelters
It's a solid week of promotional events with Two Dead Fat Guys Night on August 16th as the Rascals salute Elvis and Babe Ruth who both died on that date. Wednesday, August 17, the Advisory Green Council presents Going Green Night as they will up to fifteen "green" vendors on hand and the Rascals celebrate St. Patty's Day a little early. There will also be $1.00 hot dogs all night long.
Thursday, August 18th it's a Salute to the Troops presented by McDonald's. The Rascals will give away 500 team card sets compliments of the Disabled American Veterans. Post-game fireworks highlight Friday's game along with a rally towel giveaway sponsored by AT&T Advertising Solutions.
Saturday is an event fans have been waiting for: The Roger Maris True Home Run King bobblehead giveaway. Fifth Third Bank and the Rascals salute the 50th anniversary of Roger Maris breaking Babe Ruth's single-season home run record. With just three other players (Bonds, McGwire, Sosa) topping Maris' 61 in '61, Maris is recognized by baseball purists as the true single-season home run king.
(Tuesday-Thursday) and the Evansville Otters (Friday-Sunday). With a win over Normal, the Rascals will clinch a third-straight playoff appearance. The homestand wraps up on Sunday with Cancer Survivor Day presented by Siteman Cancer Center and free T-shirts to kids compliments of All Sport. Prior to the game, kids may play catch on the field from 4:15-4:45 PM.
