Evansville Wins Back To Back To Back Games

(FLORENCE, KY) - The Evansville Otters began a week-long road trip with a 9-4 win against the Florence Freedom on Tuesday night. Infielder Chad Salem made his professional debut with the Otters, hitting a two-run home run and recording an RBI single later in the game as well.

Starting pitcher Matt Trent also earned his first professional win in the victory too.

Salem's homer pushed Evansville up 2-0 only to see Florence claw back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Otters then received another two-run homer run in the fifth, this time from first baseman Steve Caseres.

Ahead 4-2, Trent tried to maintain the lead but the Florence Freedom evened up the scored again.

The clubs would remain tied into the 8th inning when Evansville exploded for five runs. With the score four to four, designated hitter Jamar Walton hit a go-ahead RBI groundout, and outfielder Greg Alexander added a double. Caseres tacked on another score with a single and catcher Phil Britton blooped a run-producing double to right field. Salem followed with an RBI single and reliever Joey Satriano pitched the final two innings to secure the win. Evansville has now improved to 30-49 after winning their third game in a row. Florence drops to 32-46 overall.

Trent (1-0) pitched a season-high seven innings while allowed four runs. The loss goes to Florence's starting pitcher Alec Lewis (2-6) after giving up the go-ahead run in the 8th inning.

The series continues on Wednesday night between the Otters and the Freedom. Lefty Matt Zielinski (1-1, 4.60 Earned Run Average) will start for Evansville as he will be opposed by right-hander Tim Holmes (3-8, 4.31 ERA) for Florence. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Home of the Florence Freedom.
