Washington Ends Joliet's Winning Streak at Seven Games
August 16, 2011 - Frontier League (FL)
Joliet Slammers News Release
(Washington, PA) - It had to end at some point.
The Joliet Slammers' (48-31) season long winning streak of seven games was halted by the Washington Wild Things (34-44) in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader as the Slammers fell by a score of 5-0.
Chris Sidick singled to start the bottom of the first against Slammers' starter Kevin Crimmel (5-4). A sacrifice bunt moved him to second. Luis Rivera followed with a RBI single and it was 1-0 Washington.
Crimmel kept Washington quiet after that until he hit the wall in the fifth. Blake Ochoa walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Sidick doubled him home to make the score 2-0. Doug Thennis doubled Sidick in and the Slammers intentionally walked Rivera. Scott Lawson chased Crimmel from the game as he singled in Thennis to extend the lead to 4-0.
Chris Pack entered the game and was greeted by a Tim Battle RBI single. The run was charged to Crimmel who went four and a third innings, giving up seven hits, five runs, all earned, two walks, and one strike out.
Meanwhile the Slammers never could get any offense going as they tallied four hits and drew four walks. Joliet left seven men on base in the game.
With the loss the Slammers are now 6.5 games ahead of the Lake Erie Crushers in the East Division of the Frontier League. They will take on Washington again Wednesday night as Ryne Miller (1-5, 5.04 ERA) takes the mound. First pitch is at 5:35 p.m. Central Time and all the action can be heard on AM 1340 WJOL and www.wjol.com .
