River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - River City ended their three-game losing streak by clinching their third-straight playoff berth with a 6-4 win over the Normal CornBelters behind a three RBI night from Doug Sanders.

Normal (38-41) took a 2-0 lead in the first as Josh Lowey (9-2) struggled from the get-go but River City's offense would respond in the second on a Chad Maddox two-run homerun to tie the game at 2-2.

The Rascals (56-22) took a 4-2 lead in the third after Jareck West tripled and scored on a Sanders single. Sanders scored on a sacrifice fly in the frame.

Lowey, who struck out seven but walked four, did not have his best stuff of the night, but was able to pitch around trouble in his five innings of work. The CornBelters, who stranded 14 runners on the bases, plated a single run in the fourth and one more in the fifth but the Rascals picked up their fifth run in the fourth as Sanders drove in his second.

The bullpen of Dustin Umberger, Brandon Cunniff, and Derrick Miramontes combined for nine strikeouts over the final four innings, holding on to a one run lead until River City picked up the two-out single from Sanders to stretch the lead to 6-4.

Miramontes locked down the ninth for his 15th save.

The Rascals and 'Belters square off tomorrow with first pitch set for 7:05. Tyler Lavigne (5-7, 3.27) will face the Rascals' Don Lisi (6-1, 3.80).
