Grizzlies Offense Hits The Mark With 6-1 Victory Over Houston

West Valley City - Six different Grizzlies found the net as Utah shot down the Houston Aeros with a 6-1 victory at the E-Center Friday. Utah's Jarrod Skalde and Jeff MacMillan both contributed a goal and two assists while goaltender Jason Bacashihua stopped 38 shots.

The Grizzlies (3-5-1-2) came out with an offensive mindset scoring three times in the first period. The first goal came off the stick of Bubba Berenzweig at the 3:34 mark, Jarrod Skalde with the assist on the powerplay. Skalde contributed another assist at 8:42 of the first period on another powerplay when he sent a perfect pass across the net to a wide open Jeff MacMillan who notched his first goal of the season. Eric Schneider also found his first goal on the season sending another puck past Aeros netminder Kyle Kettles at the 15:39 mark as the Grizzlies took the early 3-0 lead.

Houston (3-6-1-0) finally found their offense 2:56 into the second period with a goal from Marc Cavosie. Houston would eventually outshoot the Grizzlies 39-31. However, Utah continued to roll with two second-period goals against Houston's Kettles. David Gove netted his second goal of the season at the 10:27 mark and at 12:43 Skalde continued his offensive attack scoring the Grizzlies' fifth goal and his third point on the night. The Grizzlies led 5-1 at the second intermission.

Utah maintained the aggressive offense into the third period. Justin Cox netted the final goal of the game at the 4:33 mark as the Grizzlies extended their lead to 6-1. Houston's Kettles would finish the losing effort with 25 saves.

The Grizzlies and Aeros will finish the two-game series when they meet again Saturday at the E-Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
