San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Gulls look for their second straight win when they take on the Florida Everblades for the first time tonight at the Sports Arena.

This is Florida's first-ever visit to the Sports Arena and the first time the Gulls will face a team from the east. The two will square off again tomorrow for the final time in the regular season.

San Diego is coming off a 6-3 home opener win against the Idaho Steelheads on Saturday. Billy Tibbetts and Greg Barber each scored a pair, while Mark Pederson and Josh Gratton (first professional goal) also tickled the twine. Three of the goals came on the power play, while one of Tibbetts' markers was short-handed.

Barber, who's scored at least one point in all four games this season, and Tibbetts lead the club with five points apiece (3g, 2a).

Dennis Purdie will play his 200th career game with the Gulls tonight. He suited up for his 500th professional game in Saturday's win against Idaho. Purdie needs seven more points for 500 in his career.

The Gulls enter the day tied with the Bakersfield Condors for last place in the Pacific Division. San Diego, however, has still played the fewest games in the ECHL. More than half the teams in the league have played at least twice as many games as the Blue and Orange.

Florida is atop the Southern Division, one point ahead of the Columbia Inferno. The Everblades are in the midst of a five-game road trip, all against Pacific Division teams. They started the trip Tuesday with an overtime win in Las Vegas before falling Wednesday night in Long Beach.

Keith Anderson leads the ECHL with 18 points and nine goals. He's riding a seven-game goal-scoring streak coming into tonight's game. Brian McCullough is third in the league with 15 points (5g, 10a), while Brent McDonald is fourth with 13 points (4g, 9a). The Everblades lead the league with 37 goals scored, but have allowed 32, tied for second most in the ECHL.

Florida defenseman Ryan Van Buskirk will sit out the third of a five-game suspension. San Diego's Clayton Read and David Burleigh were both activated from injured reserve today.
