BILOXI, Miss. – For the third straight head-to-head game, the Louisiana IceGators defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves by one goal, this time 3-2 in the shootout in front of 3,012 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

"We need to play 60 minutes," said Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods. "It looked like we were playing in quick sand for too much of the night. The only good news is that we got one point. We need to come back Sunday with a good effort at home against Fresno."

The first period was marked by a heavyweight fight between Roger Maxwell and Dennis Shiryaev. The two squared off at center ice.

After a scoreless first period, Louisiana (4-2-0) opened the score on the power play at 3:37. Ben Kilgour tallied his second of the season, squeaking a shot through Greg Gardner. Kevin Mitchell and Maxime Fortunus collected the assists. It was Mitchell's first game back since being assigned by the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League, and he would add another helper later in the contest.

Mississippi (3-3-3) tied the score with the man advantage. Brent Gauvreau was credited with his second of the campaign at 6:02.

The IceGators went back to work on the power play. Ben Storey fired in a shot from the slot at 12:04, for his first of the year, giving Louisiana a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.

In the third, the Sea Wolves got the equalizer on a long shot from the top of the left circle by Jeff Hutchins, which handcuffed Derek Gustafson. The goal for Hutchins, was his seventh of the season.

In the shootout, Jamie Johnson and Konstantin Kalmikov scored for Louisiana, while Steffon Walby tallied Mississippi's goal. Gustafson denied Sergei Kuznetsov, the fifth Sea Wolves shooter, giving Louisiana the win.

Mississippi converted on 1-of-3 opportunities on the power play, while Louisiana went 2-for-5. The IceGators out shot the Sea Wolves, 39-30.

ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna made his annual stop to visit the Wolves Den from Princeton, New Jersey. Also of note, IceGators' General Manager Brian Kelley took in the game. The former Sea Wolves GM, made his first stop back to Biloxi since leaving Mississippi in 2000. Kelley was GM of the Sea Wolves from 1998-2000, including Mississippi's Kelly Cup Championship team in 1999.

The Sea Wolves finish up their mini two-game homestand on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. against the Fresno Falcons. It's the first-ever ECHL meeting between the teams. The promotion for the game is the "Party Four-Pack" which consists of four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks starting at $44.
