Utah Grizzlies News Release
Perfect Start
Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley won his head-coaching debut Saturday in Idaho as the Grizzlies prevailed 3-2 over the Steelheads in the shootout. Utah trailed 2-0 in the first period before battling back.
Penalty-Kill
After Idaho scored in two of their first three power-play's Saturday, the Grizzlies killed eight-straight shorthanded situations, including five in the third period to finish the game.
Shots On Goal
Utah held Idaho to just 11 shots over the final 40 minutes of regulation Saturday night. All shots were turned away by second-year Utah netminder Nathan Lawson, who won his season debut for the second consecutive year. Last year, he shutout Utah 6-0 October 20, 2007 as a member of the Phoenix RoadRunners.
Shots For Utah
The Grizzlies outshot Idaho 32-25 in the game overall.
Shootouts
After winning three and dropping seven games in shootouts during the 2007-2008 season, the Grizzlies made short order of Idaho by converting on all three shots Saturday with Brandon Scero, James Sixsmith and Matt Craig all finding the back of the net. Nathan Lawson stopped three-straight Idaho shots after the Steelheads took a 1-0 lead in round number one on their first shot.
Alaska Aces
Utah went 4-2 last year versus Alaska, taking two of three games December 28-31 in Anchorage and two of three again January 31-February 2.
More Alaska
Alaska is 2-0 on the year after sweeping Las Vegas this past weekend; Friday by a 4-1 score and Saturday 6-5 in a shootout at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
07-08 Similarity
The Aces were eliminated in five games by Las Vegas in the National Conference Semi-Finals last year. Utah saw their season come to end against the Wranglers in the National Conference Finals.
