ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades opened the 2008-09 regular season this past weekend by splitting a pair of games with the Charlotte Checkers. The Blades enter this week's action with a record, 1-1-0 (2pts., T-1st South Division).

Friday & Saturday, October 24 & 25 vs. South Carolina Stingrays 7:30 p.m. (Both Games)
GAME NOTES: The Everblades take on one of their biggest rivals this weekend when they host the South Carolina Stingrays for a pair of games this weekend at Germain Arena. The Everblades and Stingrays have met 77 times over their 10-year rivalry. The Everblades hold an all-time record of 42-24-11 vs. South Carolina and are 20-14-7 at home all-time vs. the Stingrays. Last season the Everblades were 4-3-2 vs. South Carolina including going 3-1-1 at home. The Stingrays enter this week's action with a record of 1-0-0 (2 pts., T-1st, South Division)

Oct. 24: Vote For Your Bobblehead! In the spirit of 2008 being an election year, the Everblades are asking the fans to vote on who will be the 2008-09 Everblades bobblehead! Starting on Friday night fans can place their vote for which 2008-09 Everblades player will be this year's bobblehead!
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Friday, October 17 vs. Charlotte Checkers 6-3 Win
The Everblades opened the regular season in strong fashion, defeating the Checkers 6-3. The Everblades tallied three first period goals by Ernie Hartlieb, Aaron Brocklehurst and Kevin Baker. Forward Danick Bouchard scored the next two Florida goals before the scoring was capped off with a third period penalty shot goal by Jonathan Paiement. In goal rookie net-minder David Leggio earned his first pro win. Each team finished the game with 29 shots. On the power play, Florida was 2-for-12 while the Checkers failed to score on any of their 13 power play chances.
Saturday, October 18 vs. Charlotte Checkers 3-1 Loss
The Everblades suffered their first loss of the season after falling 3-1 to Charlotte on Saturday night. The Everblades scored the game's first goal just over two minutes into the contest on Ernie Hartlieb's second goal of the season. Charlotte responded with a goal in each period while keeping the Everblades offense in check. The Everblades out-shot the Checkers 36-20. In goal newcomer Anton Khudobin suffered the loss for Florida. On the power play, the Everblades were 0-for-6 and Charlotte was 1-for-7.

Player of the Week Nominee: This week's Everblades Player of the Week nominee is Ernie Hartlieb who tallied a pair of goals in each the two games this past week and was a plus-2. The Everblades Goaltender of the Week nominee is David Leggio who was 1-0-0 with a 3.00 GAA and earned his first professional win on Friday.
Special Teams Breakdown: Here's a look at the special teams of the Everblades and how it breaks down overall, home and away: Power play: 2-for-18 (11.1%) which ranks the Everblades 17th in the ECHL. At home the Everblades are 2-for-18 (11.1%) which ranks 10th. Penalty Kill: 17-for-20 (85.0%) which ranks the Everblades 9th in the ECHL. At home the 'Blades are 17-for-20 (85.0%) which is 8th.
Community Update!: This week the Everblades will have players at Bonita Charter School on Monday, October 20 for the school's S.T.R.I.V.E. Kickoff. The players will be appearing from 1:30 - 2:30.
Fresh Faces: Everblades fans will definitely need a lineup card at the start of the 2008-09 season to learn all the players. Only two players on the current roster were on the team in 2007-08. Along with a new head coach, the Everblades roster is chock full of new names, although many are familiar to Blades fans as player who have skated at Germain Arena as visiting players. The new Everblades roster features 14 players who have skated in the ECHL during their careers and six rookies coming out of either the junior ranks or college. The two lone familiar faces? Forwards Ernie Hartlieb and Brad Herauf.
Openers: After their win on Friday night, the Everblades improved to a record of 7-3-1 all-time in season opening games...as far as home opening games are concerned the Everblades are now 8-2-1...2008-09 marked the fifth consecutive year the Everblades open the season on home ice.
Milestones: Here are some milestones that Everblades players could reach this upcoming season: Forward Kevin Baker is seven goals shy of recording his 100th career goal, three assists away from notching his 100th career assist and is 10 points away from reaching 200 in his career...forward Ross Carlson is 26 games away from his 100th career game played...forward Ernie Hartlieb is 38 games shy of his 500th career game...forward Riley Emmerson needs to play in six more games to reach the 100 mark...forward Brad Herauf is 32 games away from playing in his 300th career game...forward Ryan Lang finds himself 33 points away from the 200 point mark in his career...forward Mark Lee is 39 games away from the 300 mark and is three assists shy of the 150 mark...forward Colin Nicholson is eight games away from reaching the century mark...defenseman Kyle Peto needs to play in 33 games to hit 100 in his career...forward Mathieu Roy will hit the 100 games played mark in his career with 27 games played...defenseman A.J. Thelen will also reach the 100 games played milestone by playing in 34 more games.
ECHL Rule Changes: The ECHL instituted a couple rule changes during the off-season. The two biggest fans will notice are the return of the two-minute Delay of Game penalty given when a player shoots the puck cleanly over the glass while he is in his defensive zone. The other major change was the implementation by the ECHL to have the zamboni scrape the ice down the middle of the surface prior to the start of shootouts as they do in the NHL and AHL.
