Former Wrangler Tyler Sloan called up to NHL

ARLINGTON, Va., - The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Tyler Sloan from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

The former Wrangler played in 48 games with Las Vegas during the 2005-06 season. The rearguard scored four goals and dished out 16 assists totaling 20 points. Sloan racked up a 71 penalty minutes and was among the team leaders with a +22. Las Vegas set team records for most wins (53) and points (112) in 2005-06. Sloan becomes the second former Wrangler skater to get recalled to the NHL and the third overall behind goalie Dany Sabourin (Pittsburgh) and defenseman Adam Pardy (Calgary).

Sloan, 27, is a seventh-year pro who is in his third season with the Bears. He skated in the first five games this season - all Hershey victories - and has recorded three assists. He played in 124 games with Hershey over the past two seasons combined after making his debut with the club during its run to the Calder Cup championship in the 2006 AHL playoffs.

A 6'4", 203-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, Sloan has played 362 career games at the AHL and ECHL levels but has yet to make his NHL debut. He will travel with the Capitals to his hometown today and be eligible to make his debut tomorrow night against the Calgary Flames. Sloan would wear No. 89 for the Capitals.

Las Vegas will open at home on Thursday, October 23rd at 7:30 pm at the Orleans Arena against the Ontario Reign. The Wranglers and Reign will also play again on Friday, October 24th at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena.
