
Jackals Explode in Third Period for Win

Elmira, NY- After opening the regular season on Friday night with a big 5-2 win over Reading, the Elmira Jackals proved they can also win on the road. Sunday afternoons hockey game in Trenton featured a goaltender dual and an explosion from the Jackals in the third period to take a 3-2 win.
The Jackals got on the board first at four minutes 27 seconds into the first period. Pierre-Luc Faubert sent a pass back to Chris St. Croix, who then one timed it passed Trenton goalie Jeff Frazee. The Jackals would then return to the power play late in the first period, only to give up a short handed goal to Jim Henkel.
The 1-1 score would hold through the remainder of the first period and through the entire second. The Devils led in the shot category 20-16, but solid goaltending from Jackals goalkeeper Rob McVicar kept the score deadlocked.
The Jackals lit the fuse in the third period. Brandon Roach centered a perfect pass to Kaleb Betts who put it home to make it a 2-1 game at the 13:58 mark. At the 15:56 mark the Jackals would strike again. Tyler Donati kept his point streak alive as he and Moises Gutierrez set up Steve Yetman for his third goal in two games. The Jackals continued the pressure while holding a 3-1 lead. With the Trenton goal tender pulled for an extra attacker and the Jackals short handed, the Devils would strike to pull the game within one. The scoring would stop on the Chris Poli goal as Jackals goalie Rob McVicar held on for the 3-2 win.
