Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Alaska Aces defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-1 Friday night at Maverik Center as Alaska added a late empty-net goal.

Utah outshot Alaska 15-6 in the first period and took a 1-0 lead 3:33 into the first period as Brad Mills (6) knocked in a rebound. Utah ended up taking the first ten shots in the game. The Aces tied the game at one on a power-play and took a 2-1 lead with 1:10 left in the period as they again held the puck in to get a goal.

"I liked the way we came out, but then we had two breakdowns in our own end and trailed after one period," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "To trail after a period like that is a shame. We've been drilling all week on protecting our house."

The Aces made it 3-1 1:58 into the second period as Utah failed to get a puck deep on a change and made it 3-1 as Zach Harrison worked towards the Utah net. The Aces capped off three goals in 6:22 as Joey Crabb knocked in a rebound 5:12 into the second period.

"Successful people work hard and you have to go to the hard areas. We don't have a lot of hunger right now," said Colley. "It makes your stomach turn when our guys with talent aren't willing to play as a team."

Shawn Hunwick made the start in goal for Utah and stopped the final 12 shots that he saw.

The Grizzlies return to Maverik Center Saturday to host Alaska again at 7:05 p.m. After the game there is a free post-game skate. Skate rental is $2.
