WET WEDNESDAY / MOVEMBER NIGHT
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After a day of rest for Thanksgiving, tonight the Cyclones reunite with the Toledo Walleye at the Huntington Center in hopes of snapping a three-game losing skid. Cincinnati has played very evenly with their I-75 rivals over the years; since 2006, the Clones own a 26-27-2-1 record against the Walleye with a 13-15-1-0 mark in Northwest Ohio.
SCOUTING THE WALLEYE: Winners of three straight games, Nick Vitucci's club has surged into first place in the North Division standings - although they have played two additional games than the Cyclones. Forward Willie Coetzee leads the Walleye in scoring with 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists) in 16 games while ranking third in the league with 65 shots on goal. Rookie Luke Glendening places fourth on the team and leads all ECHL first-year players with nine goals - one of which was against the Cyclones on Wednesday night. Goaltender Kent Simpson has shouldered the bulk of the load between the pipes this season, appearing in eight games while amassing a 3-4-0-1 record. While his record is below 500, he has earned a 2.36 goals-against average - which is seventh-best in the ECHL and third-lowest among rookie backstops. Fellow net minder Jordan Pearce, who picked up his fourth win of the season against the Clones on Wednesday, is now 4-1-0 with a 2.41 goals-against average and a 91.2% save percentage.
Stayin' Stingy: The Cyclones have been especially tough on defense in the first period, allowing only 11 goals in the opening frame this season...good for 3rd least in the ECHL.
Speaking of Defense: Both of tonight's combatants have been very strong on the defensive end. The Cyclones are ranked 10th in the ECHL with an average of 2.93 goals- allowed per game. Toledo ranks third best coming into tonight with an average of 2.50 goals-allowed.
