Cyclones Feast on Walleye, 4-2

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones (9-4-2-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back as they earned a 4-2 win over the Toledo Walleye (9-7-0-1) in front of 6,214 at Huntington Center on Friday night. David Pacan, Mathieu Aubin, and Garrett Wilson each had multi-point games for Cincinnati, who regained the top spot in the North Division standings.

The Cyclones were able to grab an early lead as Garrett Wilson potted a wraparound through the legs of Kent Simpson (L, 15 saves, 3-5-0-1) at the 7:57 mark, making it 1-0. It was the third game in a row and 11th time overall that Jarrod Skalde's team lit the lamp first. And thanks to a pair of solid penalty kills by Cincinnati, they carried the cushion into the first intermission.

Cincinnati added plenty more offense in the middle stanza; At the 7:41 mark, Jonathan Hazen was able to slam in his team-leading seventh goal of the season on the power play after a puck rebounded directly to him off the back wall, giving the Cyclones a 2-0 edge. They made it 3-0 at 12:24 when Mike Pelech tipped home Mathieu Aubin's point shot to give his team a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes.

With Pelech getting whistled for a penalty as time expired in the second period, the Walleye began the final frame on the power play - and they cashed in. Ben Youds cannoned in his second goal in as-many nights to pull Toledo within two. However, The Cyclones power play answered back minutes later, at 8:12, when David Pacan caught Garrett Wilson's pass from behind the net and deposited his third goal of the year to regain a three-goal cushion for Cincinnati at 4-1. The Walleye would use the man-advantage again late in the third when Randy Rowe tipped in a point shot past Brian Foster (W, 22 saves, 8-0-2) for his sixth goal of the season, making it a 4-2 game. In the final two minutes, Toledo pulled its goalie for an extra attacker in hopes of mounting a comeback; however, Foster and company stayed strong and earned a 4-2 victory.

Second Star: Jonathan Hazen (1 goal for Cincinnati)

Third Star: Garrett Wilson (1 goal, 1 assist for Cincinnati)

The Cyclones will complete their weekend on the ice tomorrow night as they visit the Wheeling Nailers for the first time this season at 7:00pm.
