In his first start of the season, Aces goaltender Gerald Coleman had to weather an early storm. The Grizzlies erupted out of the gates and registered the first ten shots on goal. The pressure paid off with an early goal as Brad Mills scored on a rebound at 3:33 to make it 1-0 Utah. However, after Coleman withstood the barrage, the Aces responded with a pair of goals to take the lead. Sean Curry scored his first goal with the Aces as time was winding down on a power play at 11:57 to tie the score 1-1. Nick Mazzolini then scored his tenth of the year roofing a shot from the bottom of the right circle at 18:50 to give Alaska a 2-1 lead at first intermission. The Grizzlies outshot the Aces 15-6 in the period.

In the second period it was the Aces who came out quickly to extend their lead. Zach Harrison scored on a rush two-thirds of the length of the ice at 1:58 to make it 3-1 Alaska. Joey Crabb then scored on a rebound at 5:12 to give the Aces a 4-1 lead. The Grizzlies outshot the Aces 9-8 in the period, but Alaska took a three-goal lead into the final frame.

The Aces held the Grizzlies at bay in the third period. Crabb capped the scoring with his second goal of the game into an empty net for his league-leading, third shorthanded goal of the year.

Gerald Coleman (1-0) earned the win making 29 saves on 30 shots. Shawn Hunwick (4-5) made 17 saves on 21 shots, suffering the loss in his Grizzlies debut. The Aces went 1-2 on the power play and the Grizzlies went 0-4. Alaska was outshot by Utah 30-22 in the game.

The Aces continue their five-city, six-game road trip with a Saturday night rematch against the Utah Grizzlies at 5:05pm AKT. All Aces games can be heard on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD.
