Grizzlies Battle for Playoff Lives Tonight Versus Cincinnati

March 10, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City - The Utah Grizzlies will have a chance to pull within two points of fifth place and a playoff spot when they face the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at the 'E' Center tonight with face-off scheduled for 7:05 pm (mst). Cincinnati is currently tied for that last playoff position with San Antonio.

Utah (21-34-4-5) has 51 points, four shy of Cincinnati and San Antonio. With games tonight and Friday against Cincinnati, the Grizzlies hope to close the gap and stay in contention for postseason play. Already helping the Grizzlies towards that goal are the additions of defenseman Timo Helbling and right wing Mike Siklenka.

Thus far this season, the Grizzlies have posted wins in four of the five match-ups with the Ducks including winning both games in the 'E' Center outscoring Cincinnati 9-1.

Cincinnati (23-30-8-1) is clinging to the fifth spot in the division with five games remaining against San Antonio and Utah. The Ducks are feeling good after coming off a road win at Cleveland on Sunday. Defenseman Mark Popovic is currently on a three-game point streak for Cincinnati with two goals and two assists over that stretch. Michael Holmqvist was re-assigned by Anaheim to Cincinnati.

After tonight and Friday's game against Cincinnati the Grizzlies will head back on the road to face two tough division rivals, Milwaukee and Chicago.
