Panthers recall Shvidki and Olson

SUNRISE, FLA. – Florida Panthers General Manager Rick Dudley announced today that the Panthers have recalled RW Denis Shvidki and LW Josh Olson from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. It is the first recall of the season for both players. The Panthers learned today that C Byron Ritchie will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a broken clavicle in last night's game at Toronto.

Shvidki, 23, is San Antonio's leading scorer, with 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists) in 61 games. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound native of Kharkov, Ukraine, has played in 74 NHL games with the Panthers over the last three seasons, scoring 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists), with 30 penalty minutes. Shvidki was Florida's first choice (12th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Olson, 22, is in his second season as a pro and is looking to make his NHL debut. At the time of his recall, he was third among active Rampage players in scoring, with 29 points (19 goals, 10 assists) in 59 games. The 6-foot-5, 236-pound native of Grand Forks, North Dakota, is tied for second among Rampage goal scorers this season (19). Olson was Florida's sixth-round choice (190th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
