Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, shutout the Providence Bruins 3-0 at home Wednesday as All-Star Rookie Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz made 24 saves for his franchise-record seventh shutout of the season and second in as many outings. Dubielewicz, who is unbeaten in three straight appearances at 2-0-1, was also in goal when the Sound tigers skated to a scoreless tie with the Hartford Wolf Pack at home this past Saturday.

Ryan Kraft gave the Sound Tigers the first lead of the game with his 13th goal of the season and second in as many games with 2:50 left in the first period off assists from Cole Jarrett and Justin Mapletoft.

The Sound Tigers doubled the lead to 2-0 2:18 into the middle frame when Mike Souza emerged from the penalty box and notched his eighth goal of the year, his third goal since rejoining the Sound Tigers last month, off assists from Eric Manlow and Jeff Hamilton. Manlow upped his Sound Tigers assist lead to 25 while Hamilton increased his overall team scoring lead with his 55th point on the play.

After tangling with Providence's Mike Scott early in the second period, Mapletoft completed the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" by scoring his ninth goal of the season off assists from Kraft and Jarrett with ten seconds left in the frame to make it 3-0. On the play, Mapletoft barreled down the slot and stabbed the puck past Bruins Netminder Hannu Toivonen while being dragged down from behind by Scott.

Steve Webb, who was assigned to Bridgeport by the Islanders after they acquired him in a trade with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night, made a spirited debut as a Sound Tiger with 14 penalty minutes, including a pair of third-period fights with Providence's Brendan Walsh. In fact, Referee Chris Brown whistled a total of 52 penalty minutes, including eight fighting majors.

Dubielewicz was the first star of the game, Mapletoft the second, and Kraft the third. The Sound Tigers won despite being outshot 24-22. Both teams were 0 for 3 on the power play.

The Sound Tigers will finish the current eight-game homestand when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Manchester Monarchs this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.
