LOOKING AHEAD:

Lowell heads to Portland on Wednesday evening (7:05 ET) three points behind the Pirates for the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division. The Pirates ended a 10-game winless skid with a 2-0 victory over Providence on Sunday, their 14th shutout of the season as a team. Portland rookie Owen Fussey, a 40-goal scorer in each of his last two junior seasons, has scored just five goals this season, but four have been game-winners, including two against the Lock Monsters. Lowell was blanked in each of its last two trips to Maine, but has scored 22 goals in its last seven overall, and Brett Lysak is riding a five-game scoring streak (3g, 3a).

Manitoba closes out a 10-game homestand with two against Cleveland, beginning Wednesday night (7:30 CT, 8:30 ET). The Moose are 4-2-2-0 so far on the run, averaging nearly 38 shots per game, but were blanked 1-0 by Syracuse on Saturday despite firing 50 shots on goal. The Barons are fresh off a 2-3-0-2 stretch on home ice, and they head to Winnipeg with four straight losses and without their top two scorers in Miroslav Zalesak (recalled to San Jose) and Brad Boyes (traded to Boston). Manitoba, which added highly-skilled winger Sergei Varlamov at Tuesday's NHL trade deadline, is seven points out of fifth place entering play.

Lineup cards will be the purchase of the day at the Hartford Civic Center when the Wolf Pack host Worcester on Wednesday (7:05 ET). The additions of Alexandre Giroux, Jeff Paul and Martin Grenier in deadline-day deals bolster an already talented Hartford club, which also added Jozef Balej and Steve Valiquette last week. The IceCats have taken three of four meetings from the Pack, however, and their newest face is 2003 AHL All-Star Ryan Ready, who tied for Manitoba's team scoring lead in the Moose's three-game win over Worcester in the 2002 Calder Cup Playoff qualifying round.
