Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings ended the Reading Royals road warrior status at Wings Stadium with a 2-1 victory over the defending Kelly Cup Champions.

Remaining scoreless until the second period, Reading's Yannick Tifu broke the gridlock scoring his first goal of the season with a wrist shot from the right circle with 3:13 remaining in the stanza.

Reading had been on a tear entering Friday night's game undefeated on the road with a record of 3-0-0-0 and a perfect 5-0-0-0 when holding a lead entering the final 20 minutes.

Kalamazoo entered the third period shorthanded but that did not stop the K-Wings dynamic scoring duo. Eric Kattelus dug out the puck from the left corner to Yanni Gourde, who snuck in front and tied the game with a backhander 1:33 into the period.

Later in the period, Gourde earned his team-leading 11th point of the season on a secondary assist. Finding room at the point, Mike Matczak sent a slap shot that was deflected by Sebastian Wannstrom (1st), who was making his team debut after being reassigned to Kalamazoo by the St. Louis Blues earlier in the morning.

Earning his second consecutive victory, Jordan Binnington (2-2-0-0) made nine of his game-high 27 saves in the final period.

The K-Wings will conclude home stand this Saturday, November 16th versus the Cincinnati Cyclones. Saturday night will be Player Poster Giveaway Night (first 2,000 fans) and a post-game meet the players gathering presented by Fox-17.
