November 15, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings will have one player added to their roster and another heading to the American Hockey League, as the St. Louis Blues made a pair of transactions this morning.
Wannstrom started the season by earning an assist in seven games in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves. The 2013-14 campaign is Wannstrom's 2nd pro season in North America and his fifth overall.
A former 2nd round (44th overall) selection of the Blues in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Wannstrom began his pro career at the age of 18 with Brynas IF Gavle of the Swedish Elite League. During the 2011-12 season, Wannstrom helped Brynas capture the Swedish Elite League championship. Last year, Wannstrom made his North American debut splitting the season with the AHL's Peoria Rivermen and the ECHL's Evansville IceMen.
Wannstrom will make his K-Wings debut tonight, as the K-Wings host the defending Kelly Cup champions, the Reading Royals on Military Appreciation Night featuring a special appearance from former Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson presented by Fox-17. Hanson will be signing autographs between 6:30-8:30 in the concourse. Fans are allowed to bring in items for Hanson to sign (one autograph per fan).
Tonight's game will also feature $2 beers, $2 hot dogs and $1 Pepsi products.
Also this evening, Broncos for Heroes will be collecting items for care packages to send to soldiers. Broncos for Heroes are requesting cards, letters, food ( Oreos, powdered drink mixes, Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, Sunflower seeds, Granola bars, anything caffeinated and coffee filters), toiletries, (lip balm, sun block, eye drops, vitamins, breath mints, nail clippers and wet wipes), and other items including card games, music gift cards, calling cards, AA batteries, air fresheners (non Aerosol), combination laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets, towels, washcloths, toys and school supplies for foreign children, baseball hats, sports banners and twin sized bed sheets.
In a separate transaction, the Blues have also reassigned forward Cody Beach to the Wolves.
This will be Beach's first call up to the Blues this season. By heading to Chicago, Beach becomes the third member of the K-Wings this season to be either reassigned or loaned to an AHL club.
