Sean Escobedo Receives Call to AHL

Stockton, Calif. - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm announced today that the Bridgeport Sound Tigers have recalled rookie defenseman Sean Escobedo.

Escobedo featured in 8 games with the Thunder while scoring 3 points, all assists. The Bayside, NY native was also +3.

After finishing his four-year college career at Boston University, Escobedo signed with the Sound Tigers and was eventually assigned to the Thunder on September 28th, 2013. He finished his BU Terrier career with 6 goals, 27 assists (33 points).

Escobedo joins Mike Keenan and Mike Dalhuisen as the third blueliner to be called up to the Thunder's AHL affiliate this season, and fourth player overall after Kirill Kabanov was recalled earlier this week.

Keenan has suited up in 6 games with the Sound Tigers registering 2 points, Dalhuisen featured in 1 game picking up his first fighting major in the AHL, and Kabanov, who started the year with the Sound Tigers, is waiting until the team's next game which is a road contest tonight in Springfield, Massachusetts when the Sound Tigers visit the Springfield Falcons.

Brayden Irwin also was called up to the AHL after receiving a pro tryout contract with the Utica Comets. Irwin has played parts of the last four seasons in the American Hockey League, playing for the Toronto Marlies, Norfolk Admirals, and his most recent stint with the Comets.

The Thunder are now left with five defenseman on the active roster. Head Coach Rich Kromm will turn to converted defenseman and former Boston University teammate of Escobedo's, Ben Rosen to man the point. Rosen played on the blueline in his junior career and in his final year in the EJHL with the South Shore Kings, where Rosen led all defenseman in scoring with 10 goals and 42 assists (52 points). Rosen has played 7 games for the Thunder this season as a forward and has scored 2 goals and added an assist.

The Thunder face the Ontario Reign tonight at 7:30 in what could be a battle for first place. Doors will open at 6:30, but fans that want to participate in the "Sharing & Caring" event should arrive early. Fans can bring new or gently used winter coats, blankets, and new packs of socks to receive $5 off any seating location. For season ticket holders, Friday's contest will also be the final "Bring a Friend" ticket. Come down to the arena from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to secure their friend a free ticket using their "Bring a Friend" voucher.
