Road Warriors Collect Point in Shootout Loss

Cincinnati, OH: The Road Warriors lost a close battle against the Cyclones with a 2-1 shootout loss on Friday night.

The teams remained scoreless until halfway in the second period when Greenville struck first. Josh Nicholls gave a back-hand pass to Michael St. Croix in the high slot for a wrist shot goal. The rookie scored his second goal of the year. Lee Baldwin also assisted on the goal. Just two minutes and ten second later, Cincinnati tied the game at one. Josh Birkholz broke into the Greenville zone on an odd-man rush. The forward beat Jeff Malcolm stick side for his first of the year.

The Road Warriors outshot Cincinnati 36-31 during the course of the game. This included a team season-high, 19 shots in a single period which came in the second. Neither team was able to find the net during the remainder of regulation, including a non-stop seven minute sequence to close the third period. Shootouts were forced with Cincinnati taking advantage early. Philippe Cornet and Barry Almeida scored in succession for a two goal lead. Only Jordie Johnston scored for Greenville bringing the final shootout score to a 2-1 Cincinnati win and a final game score of 2-1 in favor of the Cyclones.
