Prescott Valley, AZ 12/29/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas scored 4 unanswered goals to open the game and didn't look back, muscling their way past the Arizona Sundogs Tuesday night 4-2.
Amarillo took control of the opening period, scoring twice. Forward Anthony Battaglia found forward Austin Sutter where he sent his turnaround shot into the Sundogs goal for his third marker of the season. Almost 10 minutes later, defenseman Jake Obermeyer zipped a shot on the Arizona goal where forward David Nimmo deflected home his ninth goal of the season. Amarillo 2 Arizona 0 after one period.
The Gorillas continued to apply pressure in the second period, including another David Nimmo goal almost five minutes into the frame. Amarillo goaltender Mike Brown was stellar, stopping all 14 Arizona attempts which included a breakaway opportunity. At the end of two, Amarillo 3 Arizona 0.
Stuart MacRae's shot on a three-on-one opportunity found its way into the back of the Arizona goal at the beginning of the period, giving Amarillo the 4-0 lead. Arizona tacked on two additional goals, but it wasn't enough. Final score Amarillo 4 Arizona 2.
With 2 goals, David Nimmo has garnered at least one point in all 8 road games he has participated in.Amarillo moves to 10-0 when leading after two periods.Jake Obermeyer earned his second multi-point game of the season with a goal & assist as well as his first professional fight in the second period.
