RiverKings Make Deal With Wichita

December 29, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League have announced a three-for-two player deal with the Wichita Thunder.

The RiverKings receive goaltender Tim Boron and defenseman Kevin Truelson in exchange for goaltender Ian Keserich, defenseman Steve Makway, and forward Kevin Cooper.

RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski says the transaction is a move to improve the team roster. "We thought it was an opportunity to upgrade in a few areas, " Kaminski said. "Boron will give us a great one-two punch between the pipes and really push Beech for the number one spot."

Kaminski added, "Truelson is a great offensive defenseman who has great skating ability and has great vision. We look for him to be a leader and really help us on the power play."

Boron, a 6-foot, 177 pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has a 1-3-0 record in four games with the Thunder this season. He has a 5.00 goals-against-average and a.828 save percentage.

Boron was in his second season with the Thunder, playing in 19 games last year and posting a record of 6-11-1, a 2.59 GAA, and a scintillating.926 save percentage.

He battered the RiverKings last season with a 53-save performance in a 2-1 Wichita win on December 29th, 2008. The effort won him the CHL Performance of the Week award. He also claimed a Goaltender of the Week honor during the season.

Tim has ECHL experience with Las Vegas and Stockton, and played the 2006-07 season with the CHL's Colorado Eagles.

Before turning pro, Boron played three seasons of collegiate hockey with St. Cloud State University (Minnesota).

Truelson, a 6-1, 208 pound native of Weymouth, Massachusetta, has scored one goal and added three assists in 12 games with the Thunder this season. He started the season in Italy before coming to the Thunder.

Truelson has six years of ECHL experience with Fresno, Gwinnett, Long Beach, and the last four seasons in Bakersfield before going to Italy this year. Truelson came to the pro ranks after a four-year collegiate career with the University of New Hampshire. With New Hampshire, Kevin scored 40 points in 130 games and posted a +27 plus/minus ranking.

He was an ECHL All-Star with the Fresno Falcons in 2004 and with Bakersfield in 2007. He holds Bakersfield records for goals, assists and points by a defenseman.

Kaminski notes the players leaving provided an impact in their time in Mississippi. "We're losing a couple of good players, but you have to give up something to get something. We wish them well in Wichita."

Boron and Truelson are enroute and will join the RiverKings for their Thursday, December 31st contest at Tulsa against the Oilers.

Tonight, the RiverKings host the Missouri Mavericks in a 7:05 PM contest at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. Tickets remain available for all RiverKings home games, the most affordable pro sports value in the Mid-South.
