Amarillo's Offensive Outburst Wins Weekly Award

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the Amarillo Gorillas five-goal second period in their 6-3 win at home over the Laredo Bucks on December 19 has been voted the winner of the CHL Performance of the Week for the week of December 14-20.

The Gorillas ended a six-game win streak with their win over the Bucks fueled by their big second period. Amarillo scored five times in the middle frame, all coming even strength. David Nimmo scored the first two goals of the period followed by scores from Erik Felde, Jake Obermeyer and Anthony Battaglia. The Gorillas scored their five goals on 18 shots (.277 shooting percentage).

Amarillo received 234 votes accounting for 41% of the votes cast. Finishing second with 170 votes (30%) was Odessa's Alex Dunn who scored the game winner in the Jacks 3-2 overtime win versus Allen on December 18. In all, 571 votes were cast during the weekly poll.

The nominees for the CHL Performance of the Week for week 11 of the season for the period beginning on December 21 and ending on December 28) are as follows:

-Allen's come-from-behind 4-3 SO win over Bossier-Shreveport after trailing 3-1 on Dec. 27

-Odessa's Joel Martin making 44 saves in 5-1 win over Allen on Dec. 22

-Odessa's Dominic Leveille recording 300th pro point with two goals and an assist in 6-5 win over Arizona on Dec. 26

-Rapid City's Miguel Beaudry making 33 saves in Rush's 5-2 win at Colorado ending Eagles eight-game win streak on Dec. 27

-Texas' Joe Palmer making 39 saves and shutting out Wichita, 2-0, on Dec. 27

Fans can vote for the winner until Monday, January 4 with the winner being announced on Tuesday, January 5.
