Bucks Fall Again In Corpus 4-1

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 4-1 Tuesday night at the American Bank Center. The Bucks winless streak is extended to five games (0-3-2) as they fall to 13-9-6 (32 points).

Kevin Nastiuk stopped 33 of 34 shots in net for Corpus as they won their second straight over the Bucks. Laredo outshot Corpus 34-33 in the game.

The Ice Rays (11-14-4) jumped out of the Bucks quickly in the first period as they took a 3-0 lead into the lockerroom.

Ryan Garbutt scored two straight goals for the Ice Rays to give them a 2-0 advantage. Garbutt's first goal came 3:37 into the game as he scored on a slap shot from the high slot to make it 1-0 Corpus.

Garbutt made it 2-0 with 7:13 left in the first when he hammered in a snap shot from the top of the left circle.

Zech Klann put Corpus up 3-0 when he jammed in his own rebound on the left side of crease about a minute later.

The Ice Rays outshot the Bucks 15-6 in the first period.

The Bucks cut the Ice Rays lead to 3-1 just 31 seconds into the second period when they broke an 0-for-14 streak on the power-play. Neil Trimm hammered in a rebound right in front of the Corpus net to pick up his fifth goal of the season. Trimm extended his goal streak to three games.

Corpus increased their lead to 4-1 at the 11:59 mark of the second period when Chad Woolard picked up a loose puck in the high slot and scored on a wrist shot.

The Bucks (6-6-2 on the road) outshot the Ice Rays 13-4 in the second period.

Neither team scored in the third period with the Bucks outshooting the Ice Rays 15-14.

Kyle Gajewski suffered the loss as he set aside 29 of 33 Ice Rays shots he faced.

Laredo went one-for-seven on the power-play in the game, they are 1-for-20 in their last three games.

Curtis Billsten was scratched for the second straight game with a lower-body injury.

*BUCKS SIGN FORMER NHL DRAFT PICK PELLETIER*

The Bucks signed goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier prior to Tuesday's game in Corpus.

The 22-year-old Pelletier was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the second round (#59 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Pelletier attended Coyotes training camp in both the 2005 and 2006 season as well as attended training camp with Detroit in 2007.

"We've heard good things about Pelletier, he's a solid goaltender and we hope he can help fill the slot here," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski.

Pelletier began is rookie campaign earlier this season by playing in three games for Elmira (ECHL) posting a 1-2 record, to go along with a 3.65 G.A.A and a .869 sv. %.

The St. Louis, Quebec native attended training camp this season with Bakersfield (ECHL).

Prior to turning pro the 6'2'', 200 pound Pelletier played four years of juniors in the QMJHL where he had a combined record of 78-62-9. Pelletier had back-to-back 20 win seasons posting 29 in 2006-07 and 24 in 2007-08. Pelletier played in a total of 103 games in those two seasons.

Pelletier spent the 2008-09 season playing college hockey with the University of Waterloo (CIS) where he was a member of the OUA West All Rookie Team.

In 2005 Pelletier played for Team Canada as a member of the U18 National team, while in 2006 he attended Team Canada's World Junior training camp.

The Bucks released Kris Tebbs prior to Tuesday's game in Corpus. Tebbs, who is enrolled in college in January, went 0-1-1 for the Bucks over the weekend in an emergency backup
