Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (42-31) beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 15-10 at Shaw Park on Tuesday night.

Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Cody Regis. Lincoln had first and second with no outs when Goldeyes' starting pitcher Parker French minimized the damage. French induced a groundball double play from Curt Smith and retired the side when Josh Mazzola lined out to centre.

The Goldeyes scored four times in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good. Kyle Martin hustled out a leadoff double to right-centre. Two batters later, Dominic Ficociello walked. After a passed ball moved runners to second and third, Alex Perez pulled a single down the right field line that scored Martin and Ficociello. With two outs, Kevin Garcia extended the inning with an infield single that struck Lincoln starter Ricky Knapp. Tyler Hill capped the rally with a two-run double to left-centre.

"Sometimes you just feel like that," said Hill on being locked in. "Everything was going right, especially with guys like Wes and Willy back in the lineup. It wasn't just me. It was the whole team getting hits. The offence was firing tonight. We know that every game going forward is important."

Lincoln answered back with two runs in the top of the third on a Smith RBI single and a Mazzola sacrifice fly. French again limited the damage when Ty Moore grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Winnipeg re-extended the lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the third with five runs. Reggie Abercrombie was hit by a pitch leading off and took second on a passed ball. After Martin walked, Willy Garcia ripped a double into the left field corner that scored Abercrombie. Ficociello and Perez followed with back-to-back RBI singles. Two batters later, Kevin Garcia was hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting up a two-run single to left-centre by Hill.

The Saltdogs narrowed the gap again with four two-out runs in the top of the fifth. Moore singled home a run, while Randolph Oduber's three-run home run to right-centre cut the Goldeyes' lead to 9-7.

The Goldeyes added six runs in the bottom of the sixth to open a 15-7 advantage. Willy Garcia led off with a long home run to left-centre. With the bases loaded and no outs, Kevin Garcia lined a single to left that scored Ficociello and Perez. Hill and Wes Darvill chipped in back-to-back RBI singles, while Martin accounted for the final run of the inning with an RBI groundout to second.

Nick Schulz hit a two-out, two-run double for Lincoln in the top of the seventh, and was followed by an Ivan Marin RBI single that made it a 15-10 game.

Cameron McVey struck out two in a scoreless eighth, while Victor Capellan struck out the side in a scoreless ninth to finish the game.

Hill set a career-high with five RBI, and tied a career-high with four base hits. Darvill, Willy Garcia, Ficociello, Perez, Adrian Marin, and Kevin Garcia also had multi-hit games. Eight different Goldeyes had at least one hit, and eight had at least one run scored. The 15 runs matched a season-high, last accomplished on July 13th at St. Paul.

French (5-4) picked up the win, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits in 5.0 innings. French walked three and struck out none.

Knapp (3-7) took the loss for Lincoln (32-41), allowing nine earned runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings. Knapp walked two and struck out one.

The series continues Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Mitchell Lambson (9-2, 2.85) faces left-hander Spencer Herrmann (2-1, 5.89). Advance tickets are on sale now by visiting www.goldeyes.com/tickets or by visiting the box office at Shaw Park.
