Texas AirHogs News Release
Everything seemed to be going the AirHogs way through 7 innings tonight. The team just grabbed a late lead thanks to great baserunning and were sending out a reliever who had been money in his last 10 outings. Unfortunately tonight did not go as scripted, when Pete Perez allowed 5 runs in the 8th inning, sending the AirHogs home frustrated after the 8-4 loss.
Erik Manoah was not perfect tonight but he gave the team a great chance to win. He left the game after 6.1 IP with the score tied 3-3. Manoah allowed 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 8. Tu Jialun got the AirHogs through the 7th and into the 8th before Pete Perez came in with one out and no one on in the 8th inning. He allowed a long home run to Alay Lago on the first pitch he threw and the hits kept coming. Perez retired only one Canarie, allowing 6 hits and 5 runs to score.
The AirHogs offense rallied in the 6th inning, entering the frame down 3-1. They put 2 runners on base and then Graham Low brought them home on a throwing error. The AirHogs used an infield single and heads up base running in the bottom of the 7th inning to take a 4-3 lead/ Yang Jin beat out a high chopper to the second baseman Alay Lago, allowing Chen Junpeng to score from second. Unfortunately the lead would not stick.
The Birds bullpen was very good tonight allowing 1 run in 4 innings of work. Luis Pollorena got the win out of the bullpen.
The AirHogs look to begin a new streak as they prepare for game 2 of the series with the Sioux Falls Canaries, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 P.M. The AirHogs starter is Gan Quan. The Canaries starter is Tyler Herron
