Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

St. Paul, Minn. - Despite dropping the series finale, the Winnipeg Goldeyes return home for their longest home stand of the season in first place.

Following wins on Friday and Saturday, the Goldeyes fell 5-3 to the St. Paul Saints Sunday afternoon at Midway Stadium in St. Paul before 4,915 spectators.

Winnipeg still leads the Saints by a game for first place in the North Division.

Winnipeg started the scoring in the top of the second inning when Luis Alen scored on a walk with the bases loaded.

After St. Paul put up two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead, Luis Alen hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning that was originally ruled to be off the wall, which caused a slow trotting Jon Weber to be tagged out at home. Following a brief discussion, the umpires ruled it a home run. St. Paul manager George Tsamis was ejected after arguing the reversed call.

The winning runs came in the eighth inning with St. Paul scored twice. The Saints walked in a run with the bases loaded and tallied on a sac fly to centre field.

Goldeyes starting pitcher Luis Villarreal went six innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven, but takes a no decision.

Aaron Cook takes the loss for Winnipeg, while former Big Leaguer Tyler Walker gets the win for St. Paul.

The Goldeyes return to Shaw Park Monday night to begin a 10-game home stand with the first of four games against the Sioux Falls Pheasants. Game time is 7 p.m.
