Augusta Lynx News Release

Close, but no cigar. An Augusta Lynx comeback on Friday night in Charlotte fell just short as they lost to the Checkers 3-2 on Friday night. The Checkers special teams would make the difference, scoring twice on the power play and once shorthanded.

Augusta Lynx goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert posted one of his best starts of the season, stopping 42 of 45 Checkers shots. However, it was the Charlotte second goal that would stand as the controversial one on Friday. On a shorthanded 2 on 1, Goepfert made the original save, however the rebound came to Checkers defenseman Kenton Smith who swatted home the goal with his hand. The goal was allowed to stand and the Checkers were out to a 2-0 lead.

The Lynx closed the gap to within 2-1 on #17 Jeremy Schenderling's 5th goal of the season with assists to #11 Matt Christie and #12 Ryan Dingle. The Checkers went up 3-1 on a power play goal from newcomer and first star of the game, Jeff Kyrzakos. The Lynx made it 3-2 in the 3rd period with a goal from #6 Will Bodine off a nice pass from #7 James Brannigan behind the net with more help from #16 Chase Watson.

The Lynx thought they had scored the equalizer with three miniutes left, but a scrum in front never saw the puck go over the goalline. With Goepfert pulled a tired Lynx team could not manage a chance in the final minute, as they now have dropped all three contests in Charlotte this season.
