January 18, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (January 18, 2008) - The ECHL announced today that Ryan Gunderson has been selected as a starter for the American Conference team at the ECHL All-Star Game taking place in Stockton, CA on January 23, 2008. The Devils defenseman is the first starter for Trenton since Scott Bertoli captained the 2005-2006 American Conference team.
Gunderson, 22, is playing his first professional season this year and leads the Devils in scoring with 24 points (3g, 21a). The Bensalem, PA native leads all rookies in defensemen scoring and is among the top five players in a variety of categories including points by a defenseman and assists by a defenseman.
The 5-11, 178-pounder came to the Devils after playing collegiately at the University of Vermont, where he set a school record in games played (148) and was among the team leaders in assists each of his four years.
The local product skated with Holy Ghost Prep and owns the team's records in single season and career points. He also spent a year with the Mercer Chiefs of the AYHL.
Hosted by the Stockton Thunder and the City of Stockton at Stockton Arena, the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game, presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light, will be played on Jan. 23 with the 11th edition of the Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game Skills Competition being held on Jan. 22.
The starting lineups are determined in voting by American Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the 16 teams having a representative.
There are 13 rookies on the American Conference team and only two of the 21 players have played in an ECHL All-Star Game.
The Trenton Devils begin their longest homestand of the season at Sovereign Bank Arena when they take on the Reading Royals on Friday, January 18 at 7:30pm. Full and partial ticket plans for the 2007-08 season are available by calling (609) 599-9500.
