
Godfrey's Three-Point Night Propels Stingrays to Victory

Greenville, SC -Defenseman Josh Godfrey had a three-point night (1g, 2a) as the South Carolina Stingrays (1-1-0-0) erased a two-goal deficit and defeated the Greenville Road Warriors (1-1-1-0) 4-2 in front of 2,396 at Bi-Lo Center Sunday afternoon.
Road Warriors forward Andrew Carroll opened the scoring on the power play at 8:58 of the first period beating Stingrays goaltender Jared DeMichiel with a slap shot from the right-wing point. Defensemen Cullen Eddy and Brad Cole recorded the assists.
Carroll made it 2-0 early in the second period with a power play tally at 3:27 from forwards Mark Voakes and Justin Bowers. Moments later, Godfrey cut the lead in half on the man advantage at 7:26 from forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien and defenseman Bryan Schmidt. Stingrays forward Maxime Lacroix tied the contest at 12:47 snapping a wrist shot under the glove of Road Warriors goaltender Nic Riopel. Forward Tommy Goebel and Godfrey registered assists.
Forward Nikita Kashirsky gave the Stingrays a 3-2 lead at 1:47 of the third period defecting a shot from Godfrey past Riopel. Goebel received the secondary assist. Captain Matt Scherer iced the contest with an empty net goal from Lacroix at 19:33.
DeMichiel earned his first professional win knocking aside 19 of 21 Road Warriors shots. Riopel suffered his first loss in regulation kicking away 20 of 23 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays finished 1-for-2 on the power play while Greenville went 2-for-8.
The Stingrays continue their five-game road trip on Friday, October 29 against the Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center.
