Alaska Aces News Release
Jerad Stewart's first goal of his professional career was the latest in what's become a long, early-season list of Alaska Aces overtime game winners, as the Aces topped the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 on Saturday night from the Sullivan Arena. The OT win was Alaska's third in four games this season, and improved their record to 3-1 on the year. The Aces, completed the sweep of Idaho, who remained at .500 with a 1-1-2 record. The game was also a milestone for Aces captain, Scott Burt who played in the 700th regular season game of his career. The Aces will now head on the road for a three-city, five-game road trip beginning Friday night in Las Vegas. All games can be heard on the radio home of Aces hockey, NewsTalk 750AM KFQD. For the first time this season, the Aces surrendered the first goal of the game. Mark Derlago scored on a power play at 13:05 to make it 1-0 Idaho. The Aces answered at 18:50 when Brian Swanson scored on his own rebound. The Aces outshot the Steelheads 10-9 in the period.
The Aces took their first lead of the night at 4:17 of the second period, when on a delayed Idaho penalty, Chris Langkow scored his first professional goal on a rebound from the low slot. The Aces maintained their lead for much of the frame, until John-Scott Dickson tied the score on another Idaho power play at 18:19. The Aces outshot the Steelheads 12-10 in the period, and the game went into the third period tied 2-2.
After a scoreless third period, the Aces once again turned on the magic in overtime. Bryan Miller started a three-on-one rush and fed Stewart in the left circle, where his shot bounced off the arm of Idaho goaltender, Mike Zacharias and rolled into the net, just before it was knocked off its pegs. The assist for Miller was his 100th point in his Aces career.
Gerald Coleman (3-1) was solid, earning the win, making 30 saves on 32 shots, and Mike Zacharias (0-0-1) took the overtime loss, with 24 saves on 27 shots. The Aces power play went 1-4, while the Steelheads went 2-4. Alaska was outshot by Idaho 32-27 in the game.
