Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Road Warriors hit the midway point of their season-opening six-game home stand today as they take on the South Carolina Stingrays. It is the first of three straight games at the BI-LO Center between the Palmetto State rivals.
RECAPPING THE ACTION:
10/22/10: FLA - 7 vs. GRN - 6 OT
Greenville carried a 5-3 lead into the third period as it looked to win its second straight game against Florida. However, Florida netted a pair of specialty teams goals - shorthanded by Matt Pistilli and power play by Alex Imbeault - to trump Marc-Olivier Vallerand's score and force overtime. Bobby Raymond potted the game winner with 30 seconds remaining in the extra frame. A trio of Road Warriors put forth three-point efforts in the game: Mark Voakes (2G, 1A), Julien Brouillette (1G, 2A), and Brendan Connolly (1G, 2A). Alex Imbeault paced the Everblades attack with three goals.
10/22/10: S.C. - 2 vs. GWT - 6
The Stingrays used a Nikita Kashirsky power play goal to grab a 1-0 lead just over four minutes into the game. But the South Carolina power play faltered in allowing two shorthanded goals to Derek Nexbitt as part of a three-goal game for the Gladiators forward. A four-goal outburst by Gwinnett in the second period took a game that was tied at one after a period and turned it into a rout. Kashirsky earned a second goal 11:15 into the third, but that was all the offense South Carolina could muster. Todd Ford started in goal but was pulled after 36:04 of play, and Jared DeMichiel finished out the game for the Stingrays. Ford was called up to Hershey of the AHL after the game..
TONIGHT'S MATCH UP:
This marks the first of 17 regular season meetings between Greenville and South Carolina. The Road Warriors and Stingrays locked horns once during preseason action on October 12 at the BI-LO Center with Greenville prevailing 3-2 in overtime thanks to Brendan Connolly's game winner. In terms of personnel the teams have drastically different profiles. South Carolina is a veteran-laden club that has only four rookies on the roster and 12 returning players from the 2009-10 edidtion of the team. Greenville, meanwhile, has 10 rookies on its roster and is working to build chemistry between players that skated for 15 different clubs last season. A Road Warriors win this evening would put them a point ahead of idle Florida in second place in the South Division, and two points behind division leading Gwinnett.
R.I.T. Tigers, Oh My:
Three former college teammates will be reunited on the ice this evening when Dan Ringwald, Anton Kharin, and Jared DiMichiel suit up. Ringwald and Kharin will be seeing their first game action with the Road Warriors after starting the season on the 7-day and 3-day IR, respectively. DiMichiel, meanwhile, saw relief action in the Stingrays season-opening 6-2 loss to Gwinnett. Ringwald and DiMichiel finished their R.I.T. careers with a flourish last season as they helped the Tigers reach the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time in the school's history. DiMichiel was the NCAA East Region's Most Outstanding Player during the tournament while Ringwald was the third-highest scoring defenseman in the NCAA last season with 37 points (11G, 27A). Kharin left school a season early, but played with Ringwald and DiMichiel from 2006-07 to 2008-09.
Mark your calendars! The Road Warriors will be back on home ice to take on the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 29 at 7:05. Come out and take advantage of the Road Warriors' Friday Family Four-Packs. The Four-Packs feature four each of gold-level tickets, hot dogs, sodas, pretzels, and bags of chips for just $48!
