Gladiators Training Camp Opens Friday

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that training camp for the 2006-07 season begins on Friday, October 6th with the team's first on-ice session at the Ice Forum in Duluth beginning at 12:10 p.m.

The Gladiators will open camp with 5 defensemen, 17 forwards and 3 goaltenders on the training camp roster. Sixteen of the 25 players attending the Gladiators training camp also attended training camp in the American Hockey League or the National Hockey League.

Training Camp runs from October 6th through October 19th as the Gladiators prepare for Opening Night on October 20th at the Arena at Gwinnett Center against the South Carolina Stingrays.

The Gladiators will hold five of their 13 training camp ice sessions at the Ice Forum in Duluth. In addition to the team's Open House at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on October 8th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., practices at the Ice Forum are open to the general public.

Returning players from previous seasons include Mike Vigilante (03-05), Paul Flache (03-04), Blue Bennefield (03-04), Matt York (05-06), Joel Stepp (05-06), Scott Mifsud (05-06) and Derek Nesbitt (05-06).

Under contract to the Atlanta Thrashers, forwards Brad Schell and Chad Painchaud as well as goaltenders Dave Caruso and Dan Turple have been assigned to the Gladiators from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. A complete training camp roster follows this release.

The Gladiators will play a single exhibition game against the Augusta Lynx at the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center on Saturday, October 14th at 7:35 p.m. in preparation for the season.
