Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that two forwards and a defenseman have been added to its training camp roster. Players officially report for the Steelheads' tenth anniversary season, fourth in the ECHL, Thursday, October 5th. Camp will be highlighted with two pre-season games against the Victoria Salmon Kings on October 13th and 14th in McCall.
Jeremy Yablonski will join the camp on a tryout basis after spending the summer rehabilitating a shoulder injury he incurred last season. Yablonski was reassigned to Idaho by the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals late last season and played in only three games, scoring one assist and 25 penalty minutes. Yablonski had been a fan favorite during the 2001-02 season when he played for the Steelheads, then a member of the West Coast Hockey League. In 69 games with Idaho, he tallied three points and 303 penalty minutes. The Nashville Predators picked up the 6-2, 230-pound right wing on waivers from the St. Louis Blues in 2003 and assigned him to Milwaukee. The Saskatchewan native has also split time with the ECHL's Peoria Rivermen (now in the AHL), and the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and Worcester IceCats. The 26-year-old played one game for the NHL's St. Louis Blues in 2003.
Tuomas Mikkonen (TWO-muhs mih-KOH-nehn) has been reassigned to Idaho from its AHL affiliate Iowa Stars. Drafted by the Dallas Stars with their 11th pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Mikkonen skated the last five seasons in Finland with JyP HT Jyvaskyla. Appearing in 190 games, he recorded 38 points via 21 goals and 17 assists. The 6-1, 183-pound winger has 103 penalty minutes in those 190 games. The left-handed shooter was born in Jyvaskyla, Finland on March 25th, 1983.
Colin Peters joins Idaho's camp having played 30 games last season for the AHL's Houston Aeros. The 25-year-old Minnesota native played four seasons in college at St. Cloud State (2000-04) before spending time with the UHL's Quad City Mallards and several American Hockey League teams - Manchester Monarchs, Portland Pirates and Chicago Wolves - during the 2004-05 season. The 6-3, 225-pound defenseman is expected to bring solid AHL experience to Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal's young club.
The Idaho Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and AHL's Iowa's Stars.
