Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with 22-year-old, Louis-Philippe Martin.
The 6'0", 192-lb Right Winger was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the ninth round (#266 overall) of the 2003 NHL entry draft. Martin played 69 games in the United Hockey League (UHL) between the Roanoke Valley Vipers and the Flint Generals and posted 72 points (25 goals, 47 assists).
"He has very good offensive skills and is gifted around the net," said Tony MacAulay, Salmon Kings Head Coach. "We have yet another player who is hungry for an opportunity at the next level."
The native of Montreal, PQ spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and was consistently among the top five scorers on the team. He also added 13 points in 12 playoff games in their journey to the Conference Finals.
Martin then spent the next two seasons with the Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL). He led the team in scoring in 2003-04 with 79 points (27 goals, 52 assists) in 65 games, and was third in team scoring the following season with 65 points (37 goals, 28 assists) in 54 games.
"I want to get to the AHL," said Martin. "I appreciate the opportunity to prove myself and I am looking forward to a great season in a great hockey town. I am here to win."
Martin just returned from a tryout with the AHL's Worchester Sharks, and this is his first visit to Victoria.
