Gladiators Shoot Down Ice Pilots, 5-3

The Gwinnett Gladiators used Brad Schell's second hat trick of the season and two goals from Cam Brown to post a come from behind 5-3 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots in front of 10,376 Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. With the victory, Gwinnett won its seventh consecutive game tying a season best and team best for most consecutive wins this season.

Brad Schell opened the scoring with his 17th goal of the season. Parked in the slot, Schell took a pass out of the corner from Jeff Campbell and had all the time he needed to get Pensacola netminder Todd Ford to committ to the shot before netting the tally. Matt York also had an assist on the goal at 6:15 of the opening period.

Brandon Cook equalized the contest at one with a lazy shot from the left wing circle that slid past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields. Adam Courchaine and Bobby Cunningham picked up the assists on power play tally just 18 seconds after Schell's tally.

The Ice Pilots took a 2-0 lead with their second power play goal of the period. Cunningham jammed home a loose puck in the slot for the goal at 9:37 of the first period. Brendan Cook and Nate Metcalf posted the assists on the 5-on-3 goal.

Pensacola took a 3-1 lead with their third power play goal. Courchaine found the puck in the high slot and beat Fields over the shoulder for the goal. Lindberg and Cunningham had the assists on the power play tally at 10:57 of first period.

Brad Schell's second goal of the night at 12:27 of the first period cut the Pensacola lead back to one. Finishing a 2-on-1 with Campbell, Schell whipped a snap shot past Ford for the tally. Lane Manson also picked up an assist on the goal working the puck up wing.

Gwinnett tied the game at three with Schell's third marker of the night, finishing a tic-tac-toe play on the power play. Troy Milam and Derek Nesbitt picked up the assists on the goal at 16:19 of the second period moving the puck around to set up Schell goal.

Cam Brown found a loose puck that Ford thought he smothered for a faceoff with 40 seconds left in the second perid for his third goal of the season to give Gwinnett a 4-3 lead. Brown's goal stood as the game winner as York and Jeff Dwyer picked up the assists on the go-ahead goal.

An empty net goal by Brown with 10 seconds left in the third peirod iced the contest for the Gladiators. Firing home the puck from the left wing wall, Brown took a feed from Scott Kelman to set up the tally. Milam also picked up a helper on the goal.

Pensacola, coming into the game as the worst team in the ECHL on the power play, posted all three goals on the man advantage in the loss. Sean Fields made 25 saves for the Gladiators to help Gwinnett improve to 30-9-5 on the season and remain in the top spot in the ECHL's American Confernce, now with 65 points on the year.
