Fresno Falcons News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The Fresno Falcons, looking to win their third consecutive game against the Utah Grizzlies this week, were instead defeated by their hosts, 3-1 at the E Center, as Utah used a pair of third period goals to break open a 1-1 hockey game.
Scoreless through the first 20 minutes, the Grizzlies struck first on the power play. Colt King fired a shot from the right circle that eluded Fresno netminder Jamie Holden at 4:46, snapping a string of 20 consecutive kills for the Falcons. J.F. Plourde answered right back for Fresno off a lucky bounce. Plourde tracked down a puck behind the Utah goal and centered the puck, which glanced off a Grizzlies skate past goaltender Alfie Michaud at 6:10. The goal was Plourde's 18th of the season, tying him with Shawn Mather for the team goal-scoring lead.
Still tied at one entering the third, Utah scored off a pair of rushes through center. Garett Cameron found Ryan Kinasewich, who finished a three-on-two from the left circle at 7:55. Less than two minutes later, Jeff Miles converted off a two-on-two rush, shooting against the grain past Holden's glove hand at 9:29 to give the Grizzlies some insurance. Fresno forced Michaud to make 13 stops in the third, but never got any closer.
The loss snaps a six-game unbeaten streak for the Falcons, as they failed to follow-up two earlier wins this week against Utah, a 2-1 victory this past Tuesday at Save Mart Center and a 5-3 win last night at the E Center.
The Falcons stay on the road for their next game when they visit the Stockton Thunder at the brand new Stockton Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The game can be heard live on 1550 Sporting News Radio beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the FutureTek Pre-game Show. Fans may also view the game online courtesy of B2 Networks, which can be accessed via the Falcons home page at www.fresnofalcons.com.
Fresno will then return home on Friday, Feb. 10, when they host the Thunder at Save Mart Center at 7 p.m., the second of four in a row against their Central Valley rivals. Individual tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office with prices ranging from $8 - $23.
