Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Falcons rookie goaltender Jamie Holden was named runner-up for the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month Award yesterday. The Alaska Aces' Alex Leavitt took home the league's top rookie honors for January.
Holden, who had made only two starts for the Falcons prior to January because he was called-up to the American Hockey League's Cleveland Barons, went 6-1-1 last month with a 2.48 goals against average and .932 save percentage. His stand-out performances included a 40-save effort in a 2-1 shootout win against the Bakersfield Condors on Jan. 14, 35 saves during a 2-1 regulation win over the Utah Grizzlies on Jan. 31, and a record-setting 54 stops on Jan. 22 when he helped lead the Falcons to an improbable 4-3 win over the Idaho Steelheads despite getting out-shot 57-21. His 26 saves during the first period of the game on Jan. 22 set a new all-time Falcons record for most saves in one period.
Holden turned pro out of Quinnipiac University, where he established school records for career wins (59), shutouts (7), goals against average (2.49), and save percentage (.921). He is under contract to Cleveland and has appeared in 13 games this season for Fresno's AHL affiliate, going 5-6-0 with a 3.38 goals against average and .898 save percentage. Holden set a Barons record by winning five consecutive starts at one point this season, a stretch during which he was named the AHL's Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 31 - Nov. 6. On the year, he is 8-1-2 for the Falcons with a 2.91 goals against average and .914 save percentage.
Fresno looks to win its third game in a row this evening against the Utah Grizzlies, which they defeated 2-1 on Jan. 31 and 5-3 last night. Tonight's tilt concludes the Falcons' only visit to the E Center this season. The game can be heard live on 1550 Sporting News Radio beginning at 5:45 p.m. Pacific with the FutureTek Pre-game Show.
