Ice Pilots Fight Hard in 5-3 Loss

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots lost 5 - 3 to the Gwinnett Gladiators on Saturday night in a penalty filled game.

Brad Shell scored the first of his three goals at the 6:15 mark of the first period to give the Gladiators a 1 - 0 lead. The Ice Pilots than reeled off three straight goals to take a commanding 3 - 1 lead. Brendan Cook scored at the 6:33 mark for the Ice Pilots with an assist from Courchaine and Cunningham. Cunningham scored the Ice Pilots second goal at the 9:37 mark with assists from Cook and Metcalf. Courchaine tallied the Ice Pilots last goal at the 10:57 mark of the first period with assists from Lindberg and Cunningham.

Brad Shell scored again for the Gladiators at the 12:27 mark to finish off the scoring in the first period and cut the Ice Pilots lead to 3 - 2. It was Shell again putting the puck past Ice Pilots goalie Todd Ford in the second period notching a hat trick at the 6:19 mark of the second period to even the score at 3 - 3.

Cam Brown of the Gladiators scored the final two goals of the game in the third period. His second goal was an empty netter at the 19:50 mark to seal the victory for Gwinnett. The Ice Pilots thought they scored a game tying goal midway through the third period, but it was waved off by the referee as high sticking.

All three Ice Pilots goals came on the power play as Pensacola had nine power play opportunities.

The Ice Pilots record drops to 16 - 24 - 5 for 37 points and 7th place in the South Division.

The Ice Pilots will play at home on Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th versus Florida Everblades. Game time at 7:05pm.
