Girardi named to AHL All-Rookie Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman Daniel Girardi has been named to the 2005-06 American Hockey League All-Rookie Team. The rookie blueliner joined the Wolf Pack roster on Nov. 12th after starting the season with Charlotte of the ECHL.

Girardi, a 6-foot-1-inch, 205-pound 21-year-old from Welland, Ontario, skated in seven games for the Checkers this season recording five points (1g, 4a), six penalty minutes and had a plus-minus rating of +5.

Girardi has played in 60 games with the Pack this season, netting eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points and earning a plus-14 rating. Girardi also registered a six-game points scoring streak, tallying eleven points between February 24th and March 4th, including two goals in the March 4th win over Houston that Girardi sealed with the game-winner. Girardi, who won a Memorial Cup with London (OHL) in 2005, also contributed ten other multiple-point games, including three three-point efforts.

Girardi will receive a custom designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2005-06 AHL All-Rookie Team.

Girardi joins forwards Patrick O'Sullivan (Houston), Ryan Shannon (Portland) and Martin St. Pierre (Norfolk), fellow defenseman Mike Green (Hershey) and goaltender Jimmy Howard (Grand Rapids) on the All-Rookie team.

Hartford has six games remaining and has clinched a playoff berth. The Wolf Pack is currently in second place in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division with a record of 44-22-2-6 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and 96 points.

The Charlotte Checkers finish off the regular season this weekend at Columbia on Friday and Greenville on Saturday.
