San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - Alex Kim has returned from the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates, the San Diego Gulls announced Wednesday. Kim, who enters play with a 16-game point streak, will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Idaho Steelheads.
Kim was loaned to Portland Thursday after putting up 11 points (4g, 7a) in four games with the Gulls since returning from a broken collar bone. In three games for the Pirates he netted two points (1g, 1a) and two penalty minutes.
The 26-year-old from Fullerton, Calif. has recorded 38 points (16g, 22a) in just 22 games for the Gulls this season. He leads San Diego with a plus-minus rating of +18 and is tied for the club lead with three short-handed goals. Kim, who signed with the Gulls in late November, is in the midst of a career-high 16-game point streak, during which he's scored 31 points. That's the longest active streak in the ECHL and tied for the third longest this season. He also has a six-game assist streak.
Kim played last season for former Gulls head coach Steve Martinson with the United Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, netting 28 points (8g, 20a) in 35 games. Kim also played in 13 playoff games for Rockford last season, accumulating 16 points (4g, 12a). His 12 postseason assists ranked fourth in the UHL.
In 190 professional games, Kim has notched 170 points (75g, 95a) and 149 penalty minutes. In 150 career games in the ECHL, he has registered 138 points (65g, 73a) and 139 penalty minutes.
San Diego and Idaho will meet for the final time in the regular season Wednesday at the ipayOne Center, with game-time set for 7:05 p.m. The Gulls close out the homestand Friday against the Phoenix Roadrunners at 7:35 p.m. It will be Ashworth Callaway Golf Night and special Gulls golf balls will be given away. San Diego finishes the regular season Saturday in Stockton before opening the playoffs.
