Gaucher headed to AHL
March 9, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Defenseman Ryan Gaucher has been loaned to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
Gaucher leads all ECHL blueliners and is tied for 12th overall in scoring with 60 points on 15 goals and 45 assists. No other defenseman in the league has more than 46 points, the total held by Gaucher's teammate, Peter Metcalf, who will return to the lineup this weekend against Idaho after missing the last two games of the Utah series.
The 28-year-old Gaucher last appeared in the AHL during the 2003-04 season, when he suited up in 12 games for the Norfolk Admirals. In all likelihood, he will be with the Bruins for at least three weeks, making his return to Alaska for the Kelly Cup playoffs somewhat of a question mark.
Meanwhile, Joe Talbot has played in three games for Alaska's AHL affiliate in Peoria after being called up immediately following the Aces 3-2 overtime victory over Utah Sunday and collected his first point at the next level with an assist in Peoria's 4-0 win at Milwaukee Tuesday. He may return to the Alaska lineup sometime next week, but first will suit up for the Rivermen Saturday at Chicago and Sunday against Cleveland.
Barrett Heisten, who has missed the last seven games for the Aces, likely will be back in the lineup for tomorrow's series opener against the Idaho Steelheads. Despite not having played since February 17 and having missed nine of Alaska's last 10 games, Heisten remains in the top 15 among ECHL scorers with 59 points on 22 goals and 37 assists. He and his older brother, Chris, have played just two full games together this season. Chris Heisten forced overtime with the game-tying goal late in the third period against Utah Sunday.
With a game in hand, Alaska (45-8-4) leads Las Vegas by four points in its pursuit of a second consecutive West Division title. The Aces and the third-place Steelheads (32-18-7) meet tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. in their first encounter since November 12. Alaska took two out of three in that series, which was played in Boise when Idaho held the top spot in the division. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games and selected road contests also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
