San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls continued to wheel and deal Thursday afternoon. The club announced that left-winger Jean-Francois (J.F.) Soucy and defenseman Shaun Fisher were acquired from the Phoenix Roadrunners in exchange for Patrick Levesque and future considerations. The Gulls also announced Thursday that Tom Lawson has been recalled to the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters.
Soucy, who will join the Gulls Friday for their game in Fresno, appeared in 52 games for the Roadrunners this season, notching 24 points (10g, 14a) and 197 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3-inch, 205-pounder from Riviere Du Loup, Quebec split last season with the ECHL's Florida Everblades and AHL's Springfield Falcons. In 69 games between the two clubs, Soucy recorded eight points (2g, 6a) and 252 penalty minutes. The third-year pro, who began his career in 2003-04, was an eighth round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Fisher began the season with the Augusta Lynx before being traded to Phoenix on Dec. 3. In 49 games split between the two clubs this season, he has 23 points (4g, 19a) and 54 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2-inch, 170-pounder from Detroit spent last season with the United Hockey League's Kalamazoo Wings, tying for the team lead among defensemen with 11 goals. Fisher finished second among Kalamazoo blue-liners last year with 33 points and led the team with a +27. The fifth-year pro began his career in 2001-02 for Florida after spending three years in juniors. Fisher, nursing a minor shoulder injury, is set to join the Gulls sometime next week.
Lawson, now in his second call-up to Lowell this season, is 14-14-2 with a 2.88 goals-against average and .909 save percentage for the Gulls this season. The 6-foot-5-inch netminder has won three of his last four starts with San Diego, stopping 107 of 113 shots (.947 save percentage). He has also turned aside 393 of 427 shots in his last 13 games (.920 save percentage)... Lawson is 1-2-1 in four appearances for the Lock Monsters this season, with a 3.68 GAA and .880 save percentage.
Levesque notched 15 points (5g, 10a) and 32 penalty minutes in 35 games for the Gulls this season. He began the season with the Bakersfield Condors, posting zero points and penalty minutes in six games.
The Gulls return to action Friday in Fresno, with game-time from Save Mart Center set for 7 p.m. San Diego will play in Long Beach Saturday at 7 p.m. before hosting Fresno Sunday at 5:05 p.m. It will be another Kids Night and "Skate with the Gulls' will be held immediately following the game.
